Learn How To Cook In A Fun And Simple Way

“Cooking games are video games that simulate cooking food or preparing dishes as an integral part of their gameplay.” (Leyla Useini). Video games and cooking? What a fantastic idea! What will they think of next! I am not much of a video gamer however, ever since I’ve been seeing all these advertisements for “WII fit” and now cooking lessons, I might consider stopping and buying a WII for these reasons!

Who needs to watch or read about cooking when I can have step by step easy recipes that I can do in my own home? Or more importantly who needs to get a gym membership when I can have a personal Avatar trainer telling me what to do in my living room? “The best part about these games is the fact that they are suitable for both children and adults, I know that most mother’s do not allow their children anywhere near the kitchen because they might hurt themselves, but here, in the cooking games, they have virtual kitchens just waiting for them to start cooking.” (Leyla Useini).

So for all of you amateur cooks out there who can’t seem to figure out the basic essentials of cooking, pick up a cooking game, and have fun! Have a game night with family or friends, or make a meal for yourself after work!

Boardwalk Empire Review Hbo

“Scorcese gave us a slice of the shock factor that he delivers so well, but I think I speak for many people when I admit that I would have liked to have seen a bit more violence” (Francis David). Wow! More violence? Finding a dead corpse in a pile of dead fish was not enough?

I and my Sunday night TV groupies were very sad that True Blood had come to an end however we are quite excited for Boardwalk Empire. Every Sunday, I and four others make a dessert, pig out, and watch HBO. Like I said before, because our True Blood has ended sadly we have chosen Boardwalk Empire as our new show and were very impressed with the first episode! Francis brings up a great point in his article, “I can imagine Scorcese envisioning him as his second Leonardo DiCaprio” (Francis David). We too agreed that “Jimmy” one of the main characters in the show was a perfect replica of Scorcese’s one and only DiCaprio (we all know how much he adores him).

Mr. Buscemi is a fantastic match for the character of “Nucky.” Maybe it is because of his comedic/dangerous looking appeal. What do you think? Overall I can’t wait, as do many others for the second episode. Apparently they already signed off for a second season which leads us all to believe that this show is going to rock! So for all of you who are skeptical about the success of the show; keep watching; we all know Scorcese; he never seems to disappoint us!

Introduction To Memetics

“Dawkins’ great idea was that evolution does not apply to genetics only. There are three basic components of evolution: heredity or inheritance, variation, and selection” (Samuel Stathakos). Today was just one of those days where I wish that I could just clone myself  and my clone could go do the chores, go to work, and make dinner. I on the other hand, could simply bask in this gorgeous day under the sun. Anyone else feel like that today? Fall is such a wonderful season and so very hard to get anything remotely responsible done.

So what exactly is memetics? Personally I had no idea what it was until I stumbled on this fantastic article.  Memetics dervies from the word “memes” (to imitate) which have similar characteristics of genetics. “Memes, you will notice, also have heredity – they are passed along into the minds of humans. They are sometimes varied – there is a continuum between memes that are self-correcting, and memes that rapidly change. Here, the point is that some of them are varied when they are transmitted (like a rumour that rapidly changes). Lastly, there is selection of memes. Humans do not allow just any old memes to be spread – only the best ideas, the most useful, the most desirable memes are accepted.

Thus even though a meme is simply information that exists in some physical medium, it acquires evolution in a similar fashion to the genetic code of our bodies” (Samuel Stathakos).  The memetic theory has now become a popular interest among scientists because of its ability to break down the human anatomically, and provide meaning for why certain cultures exist today.

Factors That Make Women More Prone To Gaining Weigh Than Men

“To say that women are more prone to gaining weight because they eat more than men, wouldn’t be right. If at all, most women eat less than men” (Hayden Eck). “So why are they susceptible to gaining more weight? The answer lies in the action of the various hormones present in the body, and most importantly, in the proper balance of the hormones imbalance” (Hayden Eck). Stress is also a big part of weight gain. If you sit back and think about it, the fridge is your savior when you are feeling down. Taking a big bite of that chocolate cake or eating yesterday’s Chinese after a long stressful day of work puts you at ease.

That’s why it’s called, “comfort food.” Except the comfort food will inevitably make you more upset because your favorite jeans will miraculously not be able to button on your waist! So women, I know it’s frustrating to watch your male companions, or siblings scarf down a huge cheese burger, while you nibble on your yummy house salad, but unfortunately we have more hormones that are susceptible to weight gain. Hayden’s article recommends certain diet pills that can balance out the hormone levels in a female, however I think some rest, relaxation, a healthy diet, and exercise is key.

Although it doesn’t work as quick a pill; patience is a virtue, and your body will thank you for it! Mine does, and so will yours. No more looking at yourself in the mirror and wondering why your “new starving diet” isn’t working. Women naturally have more fat on them then men, and there metabolisms are quite slower. Instead of starving yourself , find a healthy diet and exercise plan that works with your schedule. I just finished the book, “What to Eat” and it’s a great start to eating your way to your ideal weight, without STARVING YOURSELF. Today is the day where you will look in the mirror and say, “I will start a new me, and I am going to feel fabulous!”

Choosing The Best Workout Apparel

“Exercise clothing is designed not simply for comfort, but to maximize the performance of one’s workout” (Thomas Wise). It is quite coincidental that I came across this article today. I used to work at the retail shop at Equinox gym. Too many people these days don’t realize the advantages of proper work out clothing. Even when I would provide statistical and evidential support for buying proper attire; the majority of our clientele would come in a baggy tee shirt, and sweats, and shrug me off.

Proper sneakers are also a must; even though they can be a bit pricy, it is worth it. When picking out correct work out wear most importantly, make sure that they are comfortable, a bit snug, and have the ability to breath. Spandex or cotton is preferred; they allow your body to breath and prevents acne breakouts. Hopefully I, and Thomas have convinced you to step out of your shell and go and buy some proper apparel and shoes. My suggested retail spot for affordable great work out wear, no other than my favorite store Marshal’s! So this weekend, toss away all of those sweat stained tees, and baggy gym shorts and go splurge on some new gear! You’d be surprised at the results post work-out, as well as few new phone numbers added to your phone ;) !
